How to Know if Your Roof Has Been Damaged

Nature can take its toll on your roof, particularly if a heavy storm comes through your neighborhood and does some damage. Knowing whether your roof was also damaged in the process is something important, and finding out is a task you should get moving on as soon as the storm has passed through.

After the storm is gone, take a walk around the outside of your home and survey the situation. One way to tell if you've sustained roof damage is through the presence of roof shingles that have blown off into your yard. If there's no evidence on the ground, you can use a ladder or examine your roof from a window on an upper floor.

Other evidence that your roof has taken on damage is the introduction of brand new leaks. If you're experiencing leaks in areas that didn't have them prior to the storm, your roof was likely damaged prior to the storm or during it, and the leak could do a good bit of damage to your interior if not handled as soon as possible. In cases like these, having a St Paul roof repair done is crucial to preventing further damage to your home.

Eastern Roofing and Siding has helped many homeowners diagnose roof damage issues and complete roof repairs over 25 years of being in business. Contact us today at (651) 238-1313 to request a free roof repair quote.

Important Roof Checkup Facts

You might not think a lot about your roof, especially if it’s functioning as it’s supposed to (keeping you protected from the outdoor elements). However, just because your roof is working as intended right now doesn’t mean that will be the case in a few weeks or months from now. Problems could be on the brink of presenting themselves, which is why regular roof checkups are so important.

For instance, did you know that your shingles can actually be damaged from the inside instead instead of the outdoors? If your attic is not ventilating properly, your shingles can grow hot on the bottom and begin to curl or bubble. You should have your ventilation checked out to ensure things are airing out properly.

If you’ve had hail storms, having your roof looked at is a very good idea. Hail damage can do quite a number on your roof, yet that damage might not be easy to see. An experienced roof inspector or repair person will know what to look for and can tell you if your roof has been compromised in any way by the hail.

These are just a few reasons you should have your roof looked at regularly. A St Paul roof repair company like Eastern Roofing can help you make sure your roof is in top shape. Give us a call today at (651) 238-1313.

Why Gutter Leaf Screens?

solid cover leaf protectionA gutter is designed to collect rainwater runoff from your home's roof and transport that water down to a safe place on the ground level. Unfortunately, gutters can become clogged as tree branches, leaves and other bits of debris become trapped in them. When these items become lodged in your gutters and the rain comes, rainwater can't flow at its optimal pace through your gutters and to the ground, and flooding occurs.

Sounds like a great reason to have gutter leaf screens installed, doesn't it?

Gutter leaf screens, which can be made of types of plastic, aluminum, and many other types of materials, are designed to block leaves and other debris from being caught in your gutter system. When water can flow freely, your gutters are better able to control where that water ends up and your home's foundation is at less risk of becoming overly saturated with water.

What is the "fascia," exactly?

If you've been browsing the Web and reading up on roofing, you've probably seen the term fascia show up in a few places. Those unfamiliar with industry terminology or architecture, however, might not know exactly what this word means or in what context it fits in with roofing. For those people, we have your answer.

The fascia is, essentially, a band that runs horizontally along a roof edge, and is located beneath the edge of the roof that juts out ever-so-slightly. Here's an image, courtesy of Wikipedia.

Here, the fascia is the band with two grooves that runs along the front-facing part of the roof edge. As you can see, there is some overhang from the roof that sits directly above the fascia. Eastern Roofing can help you install or repair this area of your roof, as well as any other issues that need to be addressed.
