House Siding: Cleaning and Maintaining

Your home’s siding is one of the most important parts of keeping you and your family safe and protected from the outside elements. We are experts in siding in Edina, and we have a few tips on how you can keep your siding looking as good as new.

For wood siding, it is important that you remember you cannot wash it! Wood siding needs to be cleaned using just a little bit of water from your garden hose and a soft brush, like one you would use for washing your car. Use a tiny amount of water and a mild soap or a cleaner that is specially made for wood siding. Just be sure you rinse the soap off thoroughly and dry the siding from the top down with a soft, clean towel. Washing your wood siding with a lot of water could cause it to bow, expand, decay or chip.

For vinyl siding, you should try to wash it at least once a year. Starting from the top and working your way down, use your garden hose to rinse it. Use a mild soap like you would on wood siding. You should also use a soft cloth and a soft-bristled brush. A power washer can be used on vinyl siding, but be sure to use caution with this type of cleaning tool. Water could be driven behind the vinyl siding, causing a slew of problems. Be sure to check with the manufacturer too. Some of them do not recommend using a power washer on their siding. When in doubt, call them or call a professional siding company like Eastern Roofing & Siding for advice on the best way to clean this type of house siding.

Time To Start Thinking About A New Roof

If you are in the market for a new roof, this is the best time of year to start looking into hiring a roofing contractor in Cottage Grove. There are several different reasons late summer and early fall are the best time of year for new roof installations.

When you need a new roof, sometimes you get plenty of warning that you need one, and other times the need comes out of nowhere thanks to a leak or another roof issue. If it’s at all possible, try to budget for a new roof when you think it may be time to replace your roof. This means you will have some savings together when you contact a roofing contractor like us. In planning your budget,  it’s a good idea to keep in mind that late summer and early fall are an excellent time of year to get a new roof installed.

But the biggest reason new roof installations are so popular this time of year is the weather. It is a bit more predictable than usual during the early fall months, and it is usually pretty sunny and nice outside. This means it’s easier for your roofing contractor to see what they are doing, plus it means there is less of a chance of rain, which could impede the new roof installation process and set it back a day or more. Not only that, it’s safer for your roofing contractor to do the work because of increased visibility and decreased likelihood of rain.

Roofing shingles and other materials also benefit from the weather this time of year. Roofing materials are able to settle properly, plus the summertime heat is less likely to damage the roofing shingles.

Is Your Roof Ready for Fall?

The weather is gradually getting cooler and the days are progressively getting shorter. Most kids are back in school now too. Is your roof ready for this fall? Here are a few tips on how to make sure. A few chores now could help you avoid roof repair. Woodbury-area roof repair specialists, Eastern Roofing & Siding, have a few suggestions for you.

Take the time to look at your gutters. Leaves and other debris can pile up in your gutters and cause them to not drain properly. And all of that backed up water, leaves, twigs and more needs to go somewhere, right? That means all of that could end up on your roof and cause leaks and other problems. Clean your gutters so they are ready for the fall and winter seasons.

If you are physically able, get on your roof and do a quick visual inspection. Make sure you do this only in good weather, and make sure you are confident enough to get up there and move around with ease! Do a quick look-over to see if you notice anything amiss, like broken or missing shingles. While you are up there, make sure your roof is clean. Clear any leaves and other debris that might have accumulated. If you do see something, or if you aren’t sure if something is an issue, call roof repair experts like us. We can come to your home and check things out to make sure your roof is still in good shape.

You should also take the time to look inside your home for any brown stains on the walls or ceilings. This is a good indication that your roof is leaking somewhere. In that case, you should definitely call on us for roof repair!

Making Roof Repairs After a Visit from Old Man Winter

It's finally spring, which means warmer weather and rain. While the rain may seem like a blessing after all the snow we've had, it can get pesky if your roof is leaking. Now is the time of year to do an inspection of your roof and make roof repairs. Twin Cities residents have relied on Eastern Roofing for years. So get in touch to make an appointment.

Roof Repair Professionals in the Twin Cities

You may think that it's just best to take on roof repairs by yourself. What's the worst that could happen, right? It's important to involve a professional for a number of reasons.
  •  When you choose a roof repair professional, you're probably going to see a higher quality product used on your roof. What you might pick up at your local hardware store to do the fixes yourself may deteriorate over time. Save yourself from having to redo the task in a couple of months because the roofing material was subpar.
  • A professional roofer has a trained eye. The roofers we employ are experienced and have fixed many roofs around the Twin Cities. They will be able to catch things that you might not be able to on your own. It's important to get to the root of your roofing problems, instead of just fixing the surface issue.
  • At the end of the day, after working with a roofing professional, you'll get one bill. All the time, equipment and supplies will be rolled into one price. You'll know the job is getting done right the first time, which saves you time and money. If you try to handle the project on your own, you may spend even more money than if you let a professional help.

Is it Time to Replace Your St Paul Roof?

What are some signs that you need a roof replacement? St Paul roofing company, Eastern Roofing & Siding, has some tips on what to look for. And in this blog, we're going to cover a few more things to keep an eye out for when you're trying to figure out if you need a roof replacement.

One of the first thing a roofing contractor will look into when assessing if you need a roof replacement is how old is your current St Paul roof. If it's older than 20 or 25 years old, it's probably time to replace it.

Another thing to look for when determining if you need a roof replacement is the state of the roof's shingles. Are they buckling or curling? Are the shingles cracking, or are they falling into a state of disrepair? Are there any missing shingles? These are other signs that a roof replacement should be in your 2014 St Paul home improvement budget.

Also, a roofing contractor will take a look at the ground around your home to see if there are any shingles or pieces of shingles lying around. This is another good sign that a roof replacement is in order, especially if there is an excessive amount of shingles lying there.

Are the ceilings in your St Paul home sagging? This could be an indication that a roof replacement is needed and that water damage has occurred. Attics often have this problem, and if water is leaking through the attic of your St Paul home, it is only a matter of time before it leaks through the other ceilings in your home.
If you think you need a roof replacement, call Eastern Roofing & Siding at (651) 238-1313 or contact us online for more information.
