Repairing Storm Damage Caused by Unpredictable Weather

With frequent tornadoes and damaging thunderstorms popping up all over the midwest, the weather has been pretty unpredictable as of late. These disastrous weather events have left behind a trail of destruction including flooded properties, damaged roofs and downed trees. In fact, the weather service confirmed 6 tornadoes hit southeast Minnesota on Monday. As roofing professionals assisting in the repair of storm damage for the Twin Cities, we hope would like to offer a few tips to help avoid damage to your home as well as what to do in the event damage occurs.

At Eastern Roofing & Siding we understand just how important your roof and siding is to your home or business and we take that responsibility seriously. We are also experienced working with insurance companies to help you get the roofing repair you need and deserve. When your home experiences damage, call your insurance company to inform them of the damage. And, in the event of a storm do not hesitate to give us a call. We can come out to your home to inspect your roofing and siding and perform any roofing repair you need.

To prevent falling trees from damaging your roof, take a good look at trees on and around your property that may have been damaged over the winter. Look closely at any within falling distance of your home. Be sure to get rid of weak and broken branches. This can prevent limbs from ending up on your roof or through your window during a severe storm.

And, even if you cleaned your gutters in the fall, get up and make sure that recent storm events haven’t created blockages that will back up roof drainage. Make sure that your drainage system, gutters and downspouts, are securely attached to your home and clear of any debris. A clogged gutter can cause water to enter your home during a storm and a loose drainpipe can bang against your siding causing damage.

Water damage from wrecked and leaking roofs can cause costly damage and become a breeding ground for dangerous mold. Wind-driven water can work its way under loose or missing shingles, cracked or peeling caulk, and even chipped or peeling paint. So, even if a storm doesn’t seem that major, you should still call in a roofing professional to do a thorough inspection if your roof is older or if you have recently experienced particularly stormy winter.

These are just a few of the things you can do to prevent or bounce back from storm damage. For more information about storm damage repair in the Twin Cities areas, call Eastern Roofing & Siding at 651-238-1313, or you can contact us to get a Free Estimate.
