Before cooler weather returns, take care of one you are likely taking care of some essential tasks in and around the home to ensure its efficiency, vitality and value. One of the most important areas to cover is the roof. After all, your roof is what protects your home from the elements and keeps favorable temperatures indoors. When it’s time to tackle roofing repair or replacement, you will need to seek out a roofer you can trust; one you can depend on for timeliness, budget, staying on schedule, and budget and so much more. Not all roofing companies are created equal so choosing the right one is of dire importance. Here are a few questions to ask when hiring a roofer for your Woodbury home:
Does the roofer provide a comprehensive plan for the work that is set to be done?
Does this roofer provide a portfolio or gallery of work they completed?
Do they offer before and after versions that depict just how bad the situation was and just how great the completed project looks?
Is the roofer willing to take time out of their schedule to take a look at your current roofing situation, give it a thorough inspection and provide you with a written quote?
Do they put on a convincing display of their prowess at roofing across the board?
Does the roofer have a high level of expertise?
How long have they been in business?
These are all great questions to keep in mind when speaking to or meeting with a roofer. Choosing a professional, trustworthy roofer is important because your roof is important. And remember, experience is the key. Seasoned roofers will provide the best experience for you, help you avoid the pitfalls and ensure proper, professional roofing repair and installation. Your roof is your first line of defense against the elements. You want to make sure the people working on your roof are of the highest quality.
Still not sure which roofer to hire? You can ask your friends, family and coworkers if they have any input on local roofers. First-hand experience is always the best, but they may also have a way for you to look at testimonials from previous customers.

Repairing Storm Damage Caused by Unpredictable Weather
With frequent tornadoes and damaging thunderstorms popping up all over the midwest, the weather has been pretty unpredictable as of late. These disastrous weather events have left behind a trail of destruction including flooded properties, damaged roofs and downed trees. In fact, the weather service confirmed 6 tornadoes hit southeast Minnesota on Monday. As roofing professionals assisting in the repair of storm damage for the Twin Cities, we hope would like to offer a few tips to help avoid damage to your home as well as what to do in the event damage occurs.
At Eastern Roofing & Siding we understand just how important your roof and siding is to your home or business and we take that responsibility seriously. We are also experienced working with insurance companies to help you get the roofing repair you need and deserve. When your home experiences damage, call your insurance company to inform them of the damage. And, in the event of a storm do not hesitate to give us a call. We can come out to your home to inspect your roofing and siding and perform any roofing repair you need.
To prevent falling trees from damaging your roof, take a good look at trees on and around your property that may have been damaged over the winter. Look closely at any within falling distance of your home. Be sure to get rid of weak and broken branches. This can prevent limbs from ending up on your roof or through your window during a severe storm.
And, even if you cleaned your gutters in the fall, get up and make sure that recent storm events haven’t created blockages that will back up roof drainage. Make sure that your drainage system, gutters and downspouts, are securely attached to your home and clear of any debris. A clogged gutter can cause water to enter your home during a storm and a loose drainpipe can bang against your siding causing damage.
Water damage from wrecked and leaking roofs can cause costly damage and become a breeding ground for dangerous mold. Wind-driven water can work its way under loose or missing shingles, cracked or peeling caulk, and even chipped or peeling paint. So, even if a storm doesn’t seem that major, you should still call in a roofing professional to do a thorough inspection if your roof is older or if you have recently experienced particularly stormy winter.
These are just a few of the things you can do to prevent or bounce back from storm damage. For more information about storm damage repair in the Twin Cities areas, call Eastern Roofing & Siding at 651-238-1313, or you can contact us to get a Free Estimate.

Top Winter Gutter Maintenance & Repair Tips
There is a long list of home improvement tasks to take care of when you own a home. But, there is one thing you should never skip; and that’s gutter maintenance! There are a few things you can do for your gutters to help them work as they should this winter.
For one, before the worst ice and snow of winter your gutters should be properly cleaned and maintained. Did you notice some blockage up there while putting up your holiday lights? Don’t hesitate to give us a call. Eastern Roofing & Siding is your area experts in gutters for Bloomington and we can ensure they’re flowing as they should. Call in Eastern Roofing & Siding and we can help with all of your gutter’s needs, even repair or replace existing gutters on your home. Here is some more information about your home’s gutters and why it is so important to provide them with the maintenance they need:
Gutters that are blocked up by leaves are unable to maintain the ideal flow of precipitation melt. Wet and soggy leaves that have gathered in your gutters throughout autumn will soon be, if they are not already; frozen. They will then become thawed on and off throughout the winter months, contributing to damaging ice, altering the shape and sometimes overall structure of the gutters themselves.
The accumulation of leaves in gutters during wintertime can also contribute to added weight of the ice mass. With enough snow and ice the mass accumulates into an ice cluster. The weight of this ice can easily topple and disconnect from your home the entire spouts and gutters network. It is all but essential as a standard means of maintenance for your gutters to keep them void of clutter.
And, if you don’t take care of your gutters, repair may not be an option with severely damaged gutters. Your spouts and gutters could come crashing down at the worst time. But if this does happen, Eastern Roofing & Siding can easily help with the installation of new pieces, if deemed beyond repair. We can even update your gutter system to avoid future leaf accumulation with features like seamless gutters and or leaf screens. To prevent corrosion and rust, coatings that inhibit such are available.
But in order to avoid replacement, it is so essential to have your gutters cleaned on a regular basis. Having leaf screens installed in your gutters is another smart choice to prevent damage.

You Know You Might Need to Replace Your Roof When...
Local area residents have been trusting the experts here at Eastern Roofing & Siding for years. One might say we are the roof replacement experts for Woodbury and the surrounding areas. So, if you’re looking to sell your home, improve its value or simply make it a more comfortable place for your family; you might be considering roof replacement. And, if you are considering roof replacement, you might be wondering if it’s even necessary in the first place or where you should begin.
The need for new roofing is sometimes obvious and sometimes not-so-obvious. But the decision is always an important one. Roof replacement is a significant investment that has a big impact on the appearance, value and function of your home. It is also important to replace your roof at the right time. Waiting too long to replace your roof or installing a new roof before it's necessary could end up costing you.
We’d like to take a moment tell you more about roof replacement and some of the situations that might warrant it:
It’s Old
Typically, a roof usually last anywhere from 15 to 25 years. Unfortunately, factors such as storm damage, ice damming, and mold or moss growth can significantly shorten the life of any roof. If your roof has any signs of wear, it’ nay be a good idea to replace the roof. A trusted roofing company or home inspector can help you determine approximately how old or damaged your roof is if you aren’t quite sure.
It’s Broken
High winds can blow roof shingles off the roof, creating obvious empty areas that need to be repaired or replaced. And, when large trees or branches come down on the roof during a storm, it can damage the roof on a structural level. Rather than make repairs following storm damage, it can often be smarter to invest in roof replacement.
It’s Ugly
When combined with new exterior siding or an exterior paint job, new roofing can really make an older home look brand new. Even if your roof isn’t worn or damaged, it can make sense to replace your roofing to increase curb appeal and real estate value. Many home buyers shy away from homes with an older roof as they don’t want the responsibility of roof replacement to fall on them in a year’s time. A new roof offers a great deal of financial security to a prospective home buyer.
It’s Inefficient
A new roof can also help you save money on your heating and cooling bills. Roof replacement done by professionals, like the ones at Eastern Roofing & Siding, could help decrease the amount of money you spend keeping your home comfortable throughout the year.

disrepair?
If you see
any siding that looks like its seen better days, then you should call us and we
can send a siding contractor out.
When it comes to cleaning your home
exterior, there are two different ways to get the job done.
First, hand
washing. This is a long and involved process and not always the easiest. Get a
bucket of warm water, some mild soap and a brush with stiff bristles and a long
handle. Simply dip the brush into the bucket of water (after adding the soap
in) and start scrubbing. You can rinse the siding off with a hose.
How often do you have to have your

If it’s
every five to six years, then you should consider calling a siding contractor

for at least eight to ten years. If the paint on your siding is peeling,
flaking or chipping away, give our home exteriors experts a call.

Power washing should be used sparingly with
pressed board siding. But if you have vinyl siding or a similar material, power
washing should work just fine.

Essential Roofing Repairs for Spring
Spring is here! Not only is it a great time to get outdoors
and start sprucing up the lawn; it is important to take some time to check the
condition of your roof. After all, Minnesota winters can really wreak havoc on
your roofing. From hail and wind damage to the effects of snow and ice; it is
important to hire the roofing experts at Easter Roofing & Siding to ensure
you receive the roof repair you need. As roofing
repair experts in St Paul, we’ve come up with some possible roofing repairs
that may arise this spring.
Roof Mold Removal
Discolored streaks on a roof could indicate there is mold, fungus
or algae present. These can eat away at the roofing material and even cause
leaks. It is best to have your roof inspected to find out if you need a simple
roof repair or if an entire roof replacement is needed. A roofing inspection
should also look at the sealant, flashing and other parts of your roof system.
If anything is in a state of disrepair, it will need to be fixed before too
long.
A Good Gutter
Cleaning
Gutters can also play an important role in the structural soundness
of your roof. The windy days of fall and winter can blow dirt, leaves and
debris into your gutters. Having your gutters cleaned, repaired or replaced can
help prevent future costly repairs. At Eastern Roofing & Siding, we can
even provide corrosion inhibition coatings, leaf screens and rubber liners to
help prolong the life of your gutters.
Replace Broken or
Missing Shingles
Some see this job as a DIY project. However, due to the dangers
of getting up on the roof and the expertise necessary to avoid any leaks, it is
best to enlist the professionals. It is important to have any broken or loose
shingles replaced by a professional roofing repair company as soon as possible.
Not only do they have the right tools and know-how to get the job done right
the first time, they have the experience and training necessary to spot the
issues an untrained eye would miss. In addition to shingled roofs, Eastern
Roofing & Siding offers a variety of roofing repair on many different types
of roofs including wood roofs, hot tar roofs, metal roofs, tiled roofs and
more.
Seek any necessary roof repairs now before any of these
problems become worse. Not sure what, if any, roofing repairs you need? We can
come out and take a look and see if your roof is in good shape for spring.
When you’re ready to learn more about roofing repair for
your St Paul home, call Eastern Roofing & Siding at 651-238-1313 or contact

So Do I Go With a Roof Replacement or Just a Repair?
Is a roof
replacement in order for your Cottage Grove or local
home? Or is there a way to save it without a complete overhaul? Can patchwork
be done to resurrect it, sparing you the expense and annoyance that a roof
replacement presents? How can you tell? What is the cutoff point? How can you
know whether you need a repair or a replacement?
Gradual breakdown and wear and tear, are the
primary indicators needed to be assessed in this particular argument. Take the
following into consideration when you plot whether a roof replacement or repair
is in order:
Age—
What is the age of your roof, as you know it?
If it’s years in service are not at issue (newish home, recent roof
replacement) and all appears to be good up there—gutters are functioning
properly, leak points are minimal, insect and rodent access non-existent—simply
switching out bad shingles for new ones should allow for proper roof
functionality for years to come. The average roof lifespan is expected to be
roughly two decades. If your roof is at or near this point, you should consider
having it looked upon by professionals. Then again, you should have your roof
examined annually.
Cost—
No roof replacement will ever be cheap.
Estimates place the average roof replacement somewhere in the $15,000 range.
Why waste time and money by spending a few thousand dollars if that is only
going to help your roof last just a few more years? The repair approach on a
roof near the end of its lifespan is thought to buy you two more years on your
existing home. Being that you are no doubt following the recommended schedule
of annual inspection for your roof, the roofer should be able to inform you on
whether minor repair is the way to go or if you are in for a roof replacement.
Pending Relocation—
If your roof is in a bad way and you are
thinking that your may move within the next several years, a roof replacement
may be a wise option. This adds resale value to your home, as well as another
selling point that appeals to any would-be buyer. Most of your losses regarding
cost should be wholly recoupable in the sale. You do not want it to come up
during a home inspection that one of the very first issues a potential buyer
will face is a $15,000 roof replacement. Obviously.
Shingles—
Regulations placed on roofing allow
homeowners to have up to two layers of shingles on any given roof. If your roof
is one of those that currently have two layers, replacing the portions that
have accrued damage will be a bit more costly than would single-layer repairs.
This is something to consider in your debate.
If you would like
a quote on or help with a roof replacement in
Cottage Grove or points nearby, call Eastern Roofing at 651-238-1313, or Contact Us.

So Do I Patch and Repair My Roof or Have the Whole Thing Replaced?
http://easternroofing.blogspot.com/2016/06/patch-repair-or-replace-roof-minneapolis.html
Down
the road someday your roof will need to be repaired or replaced. There are a
lot of things to consider regarding either process. All roofs can be repaired
but when is it time to just bite the bullet and have it replaced? Eastern
Roofing & Siding is here to provide insight with the fine line as to
whether or not to repair or undergo a roof replacement for
your Minneapolis home.
If
you spot small holes or leaks in the roof, this is when the decision-making
process can become difficult. Weather and time being the sworn enemies of your
roof, breakdown will occur on all roofing types. Spring storms, summer heat and
winter freezes combine to wreak havoc on your home cover.
The
obvious does emerge from time-to-time—natural disasters, fires, airplane engine
falling from the sky and through your roof—that will call for a roofing
replacement (and likely dealings with your home insurance company).
In
such cases it is wise to call in the help of a professional roofer to help you
make the assessment. Consider the following when it comes down to roof repair
or roof replacement:
- Wear and Tear: Tiles and shingling do fall off over time. These items can easily be replaced. If those items tend to fall off from the same spot over and over again as time passes, this may point to a larger problem—such as a hole and therefore potential leaky spot. A roof replacement may be in your best interests in such cases.
- Age: How old is that roof of yours? Is it the original roof on your home as it was built or has it been patched up over the years? Or even, has it been replaced altogether at any point? These are questions you will want the answers to. Each roof type has a shelf life. You will want to know its age—the older it is, the more likely you will be to have to opt for a roof replacement.
- Type: What kind of roof do you have up top? Your roof type will factor in to the repair vs. replacement debate—each specific type having its own particular shelf life. If your roof is of a fancier variety, and therefore more expensive, it may be within your best interests to go with the patchwork repair approach, utilizing that system until it becomes more practical to just replace it altogether.
- Value: When you own a home, it stands to reason that one day you will likely sell it. One decision to weigh is whether replacements will make your roof passable during home inspections and the like. Another item to ponder is whether or not going the roof replacement route will add value to your home and therefore put you in a position to recoup your financial losses during the sale. You can also allow the roof replacement to be the responsibility of the next owners, which can put you in the position of “discounting” your home, increasing the chances of a quicker sale.
If
you would like a quote or need roof
replacement in Minneapolis, call Eastern Roofing at 651-238-1313, or Contact Us.

Signs It’s Time for Roof Repair
Your
roof is one of the most important parts of your house. It keeps you and your
family protected from the outside elements, and it keeps your belongings safe
too. You want to be sure your roof is always in good shape because the last
thing you need is a roof that is leaking and in need of roof repair. A leaky
roof is more than just a nuisance. It can also lead to mold and mildew growth,
which can present a health hazard. We specialize in roof repair in
Minneapolis
and throughout the area, so we thought we would take the time to discuss some
of the major signs that roof repair or a roof replacement is in your near future.
Shingles that
are curling or clawing
If
your roof’s shingles easily break and have lost their tab edges, this is a sure
sign that you need to look into roof repair. This problem usually appears on
older roofs or roofs that have been damaged because of excessive heat.
Shingles that
are broken or missing completely
This
is yet another issue that can result in roof leaks and other problems. Broken
and missing shingles mean it will be harder for your roof to get rid of excess
water. Shingles can be damaged or blown off of your roof when the wind is
particularly strong or when there is some other type of severe weather event.
Granules that
are missing and bare spots
Your
roof’s shingles have granules on them and, after awhile, those granules can wear
off. This is sometimes due to downspouts that were not placed in the right
spots, a lack of eavestrough (gutters beneath the roof edge) or a poorly
designed valley drainage on a second story. No matter the cause, a lack of
granules means your roof shingles will begin to harden from the heat and sun.
This can lead to a leaky roof and other problems.
Flashings that are
damaged

The Importance of Caring for Gutters and Downspouts
Two of the most important parts of your roofing system are
the gutters and downspouts. They are what keep water from pooling on your roof
and causing leaks and other damage, and it is important to keep them properly
maintained and cared for. If you are experiencing problems with your gutters
and downspouts at your Edina home, you should call in the roofing and
siding experts at Eastern Roofing & Siding. But in the meantime, here are
some things you can do on a regular basis to keep your gutters and downspouts
in good shape.
Gutters and downspouts are easily clogged by leaves and
other debris, especially after particularly severe weather. If it is safe and
if you feel comfortable, you should make sure your gutters are clear. Wear protective
gloves and make sure weather conditions are right for this kind of work. You
can also hire a professional gutter cleaning company if you cannot or don’t
want to do the work yourself.
Cleaning gutters and downspouts helps to prevent a variety
of problems with your roofing and siding. Water will be able to drain off of
your roof and away from your home’s foundation properly with working gutters
and downspouts. And during the winter time when temperatures are regularly
below freezing, clean gutters are less likely to form ice dams.
If your downspouts are in the right place, the water that
flows out of your gutters and into those downspouts will be safely carried away
from your home. And that could help keep your basement from flooding during
particularly bad rain storms.
Call us if you notice anything wrong with your gutters and
downspouts. For example, if you see that a gutter or downspout is detached from
your home or if you notice any dents or damage to them. We can come out, assess
the damage and make the necessary repairs to ensure everything is working as it
should be.
With a little bit of TLC and some preventive maintenance,
your gutters and downspouts should be able to do their job for many years to
come! But be sure to call us for help as soon as you notice a problem with any aspect
of your roofing or siding.

Choosing a New Roof
The roof is an important part of your home. It is used to
protect you, your loved ones and belongings from the harsh elements outside. A
well-maintained roof will prevent leaks and other problems that can damage your
home. When it comes to roofing
repair in Minneapolis and surrounding areas, we can help. Repairing or
replacing a roof can seem overwhelming, so here are a few things you should
consider when deciding on roofing material for your home.
Appearance
Besides being functional, a roof also has aesthetic appeal. Your
roof should complement the look of the rest of your home. You want the color to
match the house. If you need to replace your roof, you want to be sure the new
color will complement the siding and trim of the house. You also want to
consider style. A stucco roof would not match a Victorian-style house. You want
the roofing material to enhance your home’s appearance, not detract from it.
When you need roofing repair or replacement, Eastern Roofing & Siding can help
you choose the right materials for your home.
Weather
We are definitely familiar with extreme weather in
Minnesota. From ice, snow and frigid temperatures in the winter to hot and
humid summers, the roofs in this area take a beating. It’s important that the
roofing material on your home is able to withstand these various and extreme
weather conditions and temperatures. We know the materials that are best to use
in our climate, such as wood, rubber, hot tar and others. Using the right
material will prevent more roofing repair in the future.
Cost
Cost is always a major issue when purchasing anything, but
especially when investing in a roof for your home. You definitely want to
purchase high quality roofing materials that will stand the test of time and
prevent frequent roofing repairs. However, you don’t want to break the bank.
It’s important to have a budget in mind when deciding on roofing material. At
Eastern Roofing & Siding, we will do our best to get you the roof you need
at a reasonable price.

House Siding: Cleaning and Maintaining
Your home’s siding is one of the most important parts of
keeping you and your family safe and protected from the outside elements. We
are experts in siding
in Edina, and we have a few tips on how you can keep your siding looking as
good as new.
For wood siding, it is important that you remember you
cannot wash it! Wood siding needs to be cleaned using just a little bit of
water from your garden hose and a soft brush, like one you would use for
washing your car. Use a tiny amount of water and a mild soap or a cleaner that
is specially made for wood siding. Just be sure you rinse the soap off
thoroughly and dry the siding from the top down with a soft, clean towel.
Washing your wood siding with a lot of water could cause it to bow, expand,
decay or chip.
For vinyl siding, you should try to wash it at least once a
year. Starting from the top and working your way down, use your garden hose to
rinse it. Use a mild soap like you would on wood siding. You should also use a
soft cloth and a soft-bristled brush. A power washer can be used on vinyl siding,
but be sure to use caution with this type of cleaning tool. Water could be
driven behind the vinyl siding, causing a slew of problems. Be sure to check
with the manufacturer too. Some of them do not recommend using a power washer
on their siding. When in doubt, call them or call a professional siding company
like Eastern Roofing & Siding for advice on the best way to clean this type
of house siding.
